In view of the resignation -because of age- presented by the archbishop of San Juan, Roberto González Nieves, Catholic leaders insisted that his permanence in the capital’s archdiocese is the prerogative of Pope Leo XIV, but they felt that his eventual successor should continue his legacy of social and environmental commitment, as well as his administrative skills and relations with the government, other Christian denominations and the civil sector.
